Aunt Flo's surprise visit?!

Last week, I was in the ER convinced I was kicking the bucket. Seriously, thought it was curtains for me, that kind of pain. I was thinking it was a kidney stone, or my pancreas was failing, or some super rare disease doctors had never seen.

They asked me everything, including if I could be pregnant. And I was like, "No way! I have an IUD and haven't been intimate with anyone lately."

Turns out my infection markers were a bit high (I had a nail infection), and there was a tiny bit of blood in my pee. They figured it was a kidney thing, gave me some meds, and sent me home. But the pain stuck around all week, and I was basically planning my funeral.

Then today happened.

I got my period.

The first one in three freakin' years.

I forgot what period cramps feel like. I've lost so much weight my periods are back and I went to the ER for a slightly annoyed uterus.

Somebody send chocolate and a heating pad my way.

Anyone else been blindsided by their period after losing weight?

That sounds terrible. Just wanted to say that period pain that intense shouldn't be brushed off as "just" cramps. I ignored my own pain for ages, thinking it was normal, but it turned out I had endometriosis and adenomyosis. Not saying that's what's going on with you, but please don't dismiss your pain or feel embarrassed. Sending support!

Before starting the injections for weight loss, with PCOS, I didn't have a period for almost a year. I was at work and suddenly it all came rushing out. I bled so much there were clots the size of my hand all over the floor. Someone thought I was miscarrying I bled so much. I had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance and everyone was staring as I was soaked in blood. I almost passed out. I was just severely dehydrated and all the bleeding was from my uterus building up. They sent me home and I bled for 2 weeks.

Not exactly the same, but you aren't the only one with embarrassing period stories.

YES!!! I had almost the same thing happen. I have the nexplanon implant because IUDs didn't work for me. It's been almost 4 years since I saw my period. Then yesterday, I thought my appendix was about to explode. This morning, my period showed up like "Surprise!" 😭 It's crazy how that happened!

I have PCOS and the heavier I was, the more awful my periods got. Since starting this medication, my periods are much lighter and less painful. They should add this kind of stuff to the benefits list.

I was surprised to find out I was pregnant after losing weight. I'd been told it would be impossible without fertility treatments.

I HAVEN'T HAD A PERIOD IN *13 YEARS* BECAUSE OF MIRENA, AND NOW I'M BLEEDING LIKE CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry for shouting, but this is my WORST nightmare. I have bipolar and PMDD and I was convinced I was just having a really bad depressive episode/suicidal thoughts, but nope, it's just a PERIOD.

I am unbelievably pissed off. My hormonal cycle is terrible for my mental health. I CAN'T go back to this. I already have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, and a sterilization consultation soon. I'm going to ask everyone what can be done to stop this from happening again.

Mounjaro is basically saving my life and ruining it at the same time.

It came back a month after I started the medication. I have bipolar disorder, and it completely messed up my moods. So bad that I had a manic episode and yelled at my boss 😬. Now I'm afraid of getting another period.

Don't be too hard on yourself Flex_Happy - sounds like ovulation pain which can be really painful. Sometimes when the egg is released, there is bleeding in the abdomen. Blood in the abdomen is extremely irritating and painful. There can be severe pain and bloating, lasting around 1-2 days.

It happened to me last November!!!! I had terrible back pain and thought the medication gave me pancreatitis or kidney failure. I finally went to the ER and they found blood in my urine, so they gave me antibiotics. Two days later, I started spotting and started researching vaginal problems, like fibroids and ovarian cancer. I was trying to figure out what kind of blood it was. The next day, I started my period after 5 years. Midol fixed everything.

I'm dealing with PCOS too. I've lost a significant amount of weight since August, but my periods are still irregular. I've had spotting since November and feel like I'm about to start any second with all the symptoms. I guess it's just "cleaning itself" or fixing itself, but the clots are annoying 🥲

This also happened to me after a uterine ablation and no period for 2 years! The cramps were really bad and I hadn't really experienced them before. I didn't realize it affected periods until I researched it.

My periods were irregular. I would only get 3 or 4 a year since the pandemic (when I was at my heaviest). A few months after starting the medication they came back and are now regular. I’ve never been so happy to have periods tbh, even though they aren't fun.

I hear you. I'm dealing with constipation issues. I saw someone on another site mention chia seeds might help. Has anyone tried that?

I have IBS and was really worried about starting these meds because of all the GI side effects I'd heard about. But surprisingly, it's actually helped my IBS. Maybe talk to your doctor about it?
