Down 40+ on Sema! My Story

Started at 222, now I'm floating around 180, hoping to reach 165. I'm a 55 year old woman, 5'11".

This med has totally reshaped my eating habits. The constant cravings and food obsession? Gone! I'm only interested in food that nourishes my body. I avoid junk food like the plague because my stomach gets full super quick. Foods high in fat, grease, sugar, or salt now make me feel pretty awful. Getting enough protein can still be a struggle, and sometimes I forget to eat, which leads to weakness. But the benefits are amazing! I feel fantastic, have way more energy, and my skin looks better, probably because I've cut out processed foods. Never knew how important nutrition truly was. In the beginning, it was a challenge getting used to the medication, so if you're struggling, hang in there! When nausea or lack of appetite hit, I started with tiny bites. A single grape, a couple of strawberries, or half a slice of whole wheat toast with a smear of peanut butter.

I honestly believed losing weight at my age, especially with menopause looming, was a pipe dream. Before starting sema, I spent 6 frustrating months losing maybe 10 pounds through diet and exercise. Now that I'm prioritizing protein, I'm ready to ramp up my workouts and start tracking measurements alongside the scale. I appreciate the support from everyone here!

P.S. That little black dress? It used to be so tight I could barely breathe. Now it's practically falling off. My pants and workout tops are also two sizes smaller in the 'after' pic.

Thanks for posting! Just a friendly reminder of the group rules. We do not allow discussion of non-approved versions of semaglutide, and selling or soliciting medication is prohibited. This message is not meant to stop the conversation, just to help it.

I was thinking, "No way is that 40+ pounds gone, she looks slim even in the before picture!" Then I saw your height. Congrats!

I'm 5'10" and I had to shed around 45 pounds before anyone noticed a difference. Being tall can be a blessing and a curse. At least we get to indulge in more calories than our petite counterparts!

Way to go! It's awesome that you're shedding pounds and experiencing other victories, too. Better skin and increased energy are fantastic changes.

Your black dress played down your figure before – that explains why people around you might not have seen the change right away. But the difference is obvious in your workout clothes. Thanks for sharing both pictures! You've made impressive progress, and your pics underscore how much clothing choices matter.

You look amazing! As the short one nestled between 5'9" and 5'11" sisters, I'm tempted to say being tall is a blessing! But I know better. Being a taller gal comes with challenges the fun-sized crowd doesn't always face. Besides...I'm not THAT short. If I stand up straight and stretch tall I'm almost 5'5". But having gorgeous and brilliant sisters gives me a short-person complex. And also, my nickname my whole life is Tinkerbell. 🙄 🧚🏻 😂

I'm really worried about losing muscle while on this. Has anyone experienced this or have tips for maintaining muscle mass?

I've been focusing on getting enough protein to try and help with that. I'm also planning to increase my strength training now that I have more energy.

depends on your goals. this med comes with more side effects, need solid routine—3+ days gym, 10k steps daily, locked-in diet. the other one's more beginner-friendly. use this one when body fat's 20% or under for best results.

Agree. Wore a CGM before starting, check it now and then. Smart move even at low doses. Reality: most here do 2–3iu, maybe 4iu, not cave-face range. Debate insulin sensitivity at low doses if you want but at least know your morning glucose and how long food takes to drop it after eating carbs.

These influencers could actually help if they made meal plans for hitting macros while on the meds. Food noise might be gone but now you're scrambling to eat enough protein and keep balanced. That's a real gap they're missing.

40+ lbs down while raising newborn twins is a very different timeline than the standard version of this journey.
