ER visit outta nowhere!

I just got back home after a night in the hospital. It was pretty scary.

I've been taking 0.25mg of Ozempic for about 7 months now. I was lucky enough to stay on the starting dose. It's been a great tool alongside my 19:5 fasting schedule. I originally lost around 35 pounds with fasting, then I incorporated Ozempic and dropped another 30 pounds. I've been feeling fantastic the whole time! Just some occasional mild queasiness and constipation. I've been reading peoples experiences with Ozempic, and have read stories of some nightmare side effects, and was so grateful that it was going smoothly for me.

Well, last week I think I caught a stomach bug. 3 days of nausea and the runs, but then I thought I was over it. Last Friday, I had this intense stomach pain. I was in agony for hours. Considered going to the ER. Around 4am, I felt a 'pop' and the pain disappeared. I figured it was gas and went back to sleep. Last night, I woke up at 10pm with that same abdominal pain! It was even worse this time. I got up, got dressed, and drove myself to the ER. Trust me, I was in serious pain - shaking, tears, couldn't stand straight. Felt like being in labor!

After 11 hours of IV fluids, pain meds, anti-nausea meds, and a ton of tests, they found gallstones. I've never really thought about my gallbladder before this. Apparently it's been plotting against me. Luckily, my stone wasn't infected so I didn't need surgery today. But now I'm learning about diets and bile. Worst holiday ever...

I never thought this would happen to me. A bad side effect. The doctor thinks I made things worse by combining fasting with Ozempic. He told me to stop one or the other. I don't want to quit Ozempic just yet, but I will switch to eating smaller meals more often. I wanted to share my story in case anyone else is fasting while on Ozempic. Be aware of the warning signs!

I had to get my gallbladder removed and it was packed with over 90 gallstones. It happened due to weight loss from diet and exercise. So, it's the weight loss itself that's the issue, not necessarily the Ozempic.

I disagree. Gallstones are a result of losing weight fast, not a direct side effect of Ozempic. I lost about 65 pounds in a year and then needed my gallbladder out. I wasn't on Ozempic then.

There are lots of studies showing that low-calorie diets raise the risk of gallstone formation.

THIS ISN'T CAUSED BY THE MEDICATION. IT’S CAUSED BY DRASTIC DIETARY CHANGES!

It's pretty common! 20/4 fasting is basically a low-fat diet… reduced fat intake means gallbladder issues! Back in the 80s/90s, it was super common because of the low-fat craze.

Medication trials have to report ANY health issue that occurs as a potential side effect.

Sorry this happened, but I know a lot of people (especially women) who've had their gallbladders removed. Mine came out at 41 after losing 60lbs with 16/8 fasting.

Gallstones develop when your gallbladder gets filled with bile salts. Bile helps you digest fats. If you're prone to stones or eating low-fat, a stone can get stuck when you DO eat something with oil. They can also get stuck in the ducts.

My dad was a surgeon and made earrings for his patients from their gallstones if they were big and pretty enough! Some look like tiger eyes.

Ouch! Yeah, any weight loss, especially fast weight loss, can trigger gallbladder problems.
I don’t have a gallbladder anymore and honestly, I don’t feel any different.

I had my gallbladder removed after my first round with Ozempic!

Looking back, I think I'd been having symptoms for over a year before I started Ozempic, but I thought it was just heartburn.

It might have sped things up, but it was probably going to happen anyway.

I also lost my gallbladder after taking Ozempic! It was about 15 months ago. I started taking it again about 7 months after surgery and haven't had any problems.

I saw a discussion about weight loss drugs and managing diabetes, and it mentioned that for reversing type 2 diabetes, some people find a carnivore diet really effective.

So, Med_Cookie are you just starving yourself with Ozempic??? Please don't. Either let Ozempic do its thing, or do intermittent fasting. Don't do both at the same time.

I'm not trying to starve myself! I was just doing what worked for me before. Maybe I need to rethink this whole fasting thing...

I've heard about supply issues with certain medications from my pharmacist, and it seems like Canada might be experiencing some shortages specifically. Anyone have more info on this?
