I just got back home after a night in the hospital. It was pretty scary.
I've been taking 0.25mg of Ozempic for about 7 months now. I was lucky enough to stay on the starting dose. It's been a great tool alongside my 19:5 fasting schedule. I originally lost around 35 pounds with fasting, then I incorporated Ozempic and dropped another 30 pounds. I've been feeling fantastic the whole time! Just some occasional mild queasiness and constipation. I've been reading peoples experiences with Ozempic, and have read stories of some nightmare side effects, and was so grateful that it was going smoothly for me.
Well, last week I think I caught a stomach bug. 3 days of nausea and the runs, but then I thought I was over it. Last Friday, I had this intense stomach pain. I was in agony for hours. Considered going to the ER. Around 4am, I felt a 'pop' and the pain disappeared. I figured it was gas and went back to sleep. Last night, I woke up at 10pm with that same abdominal pain! It was even worse this time. I got up, got dressed, and drove myself to the ER. Trust me, I was in serious pain - shaking, tears, couldn't stand straight. Felt like being in labor!
After 11 hours of IV fluids, pain meds, anti-nausea meds, and a ton of tests, they found gallstones. I've never really thought about my gallbladder before this. Apparently it's been plotting against me. Luckily, my stone wasn't infected so I didn't need surgery today. But now I'm learning about diets and bile. Worst holiday ever...
I never thought this would happen to me. A bad side effect. The doctor thinks I made things worse by combining fasting with Ozempic. He told me to stop one or the other. I don't want to quit Ozempic just yet, but I will switch to eating smaller meals more often. I wanted to share my story in case anyone else is fasting while on Ozempic. Be aware of the warning signs!
