I swear, I'm becoming more and more libertarian every year.
I think everyone's comments are valid (big pharma is profiting, people are clueless, this is inevitable).
However, news stories aren't 'organic' anymore, so I always question their motives. Why this particular story? What's the goal of the fear-mongering? What feelings are they trying to manipulate? People die every day from preventable tragedies. Ice cream, for example! Commercial ice cream machines have been prone to listeria outbreaks, and people get sick and even die. And some of those manufacturers are repeat offenders (thanks, FDA).
These stories pave the way for government crackdowns and the elimination of health and wellness freedom, with most people blindly supporting it.
I've eaten street food in various countries and never gotten sick, but I've had food poisoning twice from inspected restaurants that was as bad as what these coffee shop customers experienced.
Life is all "buyer beware."
