Family freaks about weight loss?

I'm curious how others manage this. I've been on a weight loss journey for a long time. I'm 5'6". I was about 330-340lbs like a decade ago. I had bariatric surgery back in '11. Got to 175lbs, then slowly crept back up to around 230lbs over several years. I started GLP-1s when I was around 230. Now 2 years later, I'm 155lbs . It's been slow, even with the meds, definitely not a quick drop. I lost about 35lbs in the first year, and I'm aiming for about 35lbs this year. I'd still like to lose another 20lbs or so. My family is acting strange. They say I'm too thin and don't need to lose anymore. They're acting like I have an eating disorder, which is ridiculous! I enjoy eating and eat 2-3 times daily. It's frustrating because I'm not actually that small. I wear a large and size 12/14. If I gained weight, I'd quickly be back to XL/size 16/18. My goal is to be in a size 4-6 range regardless of the scale. I've stopped discussing weight with them to avoid pressure. How do other people deal with this?

This is a pretty common problem. Honestly, ignoring it is the best solution.

"I'm not talking about this anymore."
"My weight is my business."
"My doctor is happy with my health."
"This conversation is over. Goodbye."

And then just do it.

Oh, you'll find plenty of people here who will say the same thing... that you're losing too much, too fast, or they don't like your methods. Blah blah blah.

you're not eating enough protein
you're dehydrated
you're not getting enough vitamins
you're doing it WRONG
you're trying too hard
you're nuts
you're a jerk and i hate you
your hair looks bad
your shoes suck
your dog is ugly

It all really gets to me.

That profile pic is awesome! I've never seen anyone give you crap about it. They are probably jealous! I wish I had a cool Trans Am and a cute cat!

I've noticed that the people who say that stuff are usually carrying extra weight themselves, so it's probably just their way of coping. I'd ignore them. If they need a response, tell them your last body fat percentage that you got from your trainer, like 24%. Do they think you need to be higher than that? Maybe I will maintain when I get to 15%, but until then, they are off base.

You can get some cheap calipers and watch some videos if you want to track your body fat percentage.

I saw someone this weekend who hadn't seen me since I started losing. She complimented me initially but then told me I was getting too skinny. I pointed out I still had maybe 8 pounds to go before I was even in a normal BMI range. That shut her right up.

I believe a lot of it is because they're not used to seeing the new, slimmer version of you. Instead of telling them to mind their own business, just explain that you're following your doctor's advice.

That's so true. I think I was always the 'bigger' friend that made them feel thinner. Now that I'm smaller than them, it makes them uncomfortable. 😂

It's strange how some people react to weight loss, isn't it? It's like they want you to stay where you are. I read one story about someone who lost over 200 pounds with lifestyle changes *and* medication, but they still kept it quiet because they didn't want the negativity that comes with it.

That's it in a nutshell! Some people need you to stay where you are so they can feel better about themselves.
