FDA cracking down on compound GLP-1s?

Hong Kong Yanpep International
This scares me. I've struggled with my weight for decades, and now that I've found something helpful, the government might step in and take it away. I really hope not.

Reading about the FDA stuff makes me nervous. I've been thinking about trying some peptides for muscle growth, but then I read stuff about cancer risks... anyone else worried about this?

I feel you Bio_IMO. I've been looking into Ipamorelin and Mod GRF, but reading about potential long-term effects is giving me pause. Especially lately, I'm trying to be more careful about what I put into my body.

It's wise to be cautious. I worry a bit about topical finasteride absorption, even though it's supposed to be localized. I'm not sure how I feel about the reports of ED and depression even with topical application. Proceed with caution.

GLP-3PO is probably on a whiteboard somewhere. Reformulations to reset regulatory timelines are not unprecedented, but the FDA tends to close that loop eventually.

The GLP-3PO rebrand as the regulatory workaround has a certain elegance as a Star Wars reference, even if the actual regulatory pathway is considerably less cinematic.

the regulatory capture argument isn't entirely wrong as a diagnosis but it doesn't fully explain the compounding enforcement pattern - the concerns about sterility and concentration accuracy in unregulated compounding operations are real independent of the pharmaceutical industry's financial interest in shutting down competition. both things can be true at the same time

the FDA meeting announcement pattern is worth tracking - the recommendation-to-action pipeline for this agency is slow but once a meeting is formally scheduled for reclassification or restriction, the eventual outcome has been consistently in the direction of tighter control. what the timing will be and how broadly the recommendation will be written are the variables that actually matter for practical impact

the accountability mechanism that actually works is community-level: when a supplier refuses to respond to quality failures or defends problematic product, the credibility loss is real and sustained. that outcome is more practically impactful for sourcing decisions than regulatory action that may take years or never arrive.

the Category 2 reclassification language is the specific mechanism the FDA used to restrict bulk drug substances in compounding - moving a peptide into Category 2 effectively removes it from the list approved for compounding from bulk, which is the step that preceded the shortage exemption period and is now the source of the crackdown on compounders who continued operating under shortage rules. the restore-science-and-accountability framing from the announcement suggests the administration views the prior period as a policy error rather than a regulatory gap
