Fridge or no fridge after opening?

Hey all,

About to take my first shot of Wegovy. After you guys use the pen the first time, do you keep it in the fridge or just leave it out? I've seen conflicting info online. Some say it's okay to leave it out, but others say it has to stay refrigerated. What do you all do?

I would check the prescribing information for proper storage information. Most manufacturers have these instructions readily available.

You actually don't *have* to keep it in the fridge once you start using it. But I feel like keeping it cold might help it last longer, so I just stick mine back in the refrigerator.

It's optional, according to the instructions. Personally, I think keeping it cold helps prevent any icky stuff from growing and keeps the medicine working its best. So, I'm team fridge all the way – before and after the first use!

You only need to keep it refrigerated before the first use. After that, it can be left out. But I keep mine in the fridge anyway, that way I don't lose it. Just remember to take it out like an hour before your shot so it's not so cold.

I've been using this for over a year now and I never refrigerate after opening.

Sometimes I don't even put the new pen in the fridge at all. It's good for like 2 months at room temp.

I like to keep it in my bathroom, because it's just easier to have it with me when I inject. Plus, my fridge is kinda unreliable and sometimes freezes things.

I don't refrigerate after the first dose either. Never had a problem and it's working great for me. I travel a lot too, and I'm not taking a cooler on a plane. I just make sure I'm not starting a new pen right before travel.

I keep mine in the fridge because at the clinic we keep all meds refrigerated whether they're open or not. Just trying to limit any bacterial growth.

Traveling with these injectable meds can definitely be tricky. I was reading a thread about needle disposal while traveling. Some people use empty prescription bottles or small hard cases to collect the used needles and bring them back home for proper disposal. A small pill bottle with a childproof cap labeled "SHARPS" could also work!

Thanks for all the info everyone! So helpful. Now I'm thinking about what happens if the power goes out, though. I saw someone mention hurricanes. I guess just keep it in a cooler with ice if that happens?
That is what I would recommend. Maintain the cold chain as best as possible.
