GLP-1's 4 life?

Okay, get ready for this... My partner thinks I'm nuts, but I'm serious. I'll do ANYTHING to stay on my GLP-1 meds forever. I was pushing 300lbs and my blood sugar was always high. Less than a year later, I'm at 160lbs and my A1c is normal! I feel incredible. If my insurance stops covering it, I'll pick up extra shifts!

I'm not even using it for weight loss anymore. I lost about 55 pounds and I'm happy where I'm at. I'm still on it because it's helping my cholesterol and hopefully extending my life to see my family grow.

I'm in my 50s. When I was 42, I was in great shape but had a heart attack. My arteries were severely blocked. I got stents, then a bypass at 47. It's all thanks to genetics on my dad's side.

Even with meds and a strict diet, my LDL was always high, my HDL was low, and my triglycerides were insane. We're talking consistently in the 500-1100 range. If I even looked at sugar, it would spike. Strict dieting only got me down to 500. I tried every med under the sun. My blood was basically sludge. I tracked every single calorie!

Then a doctor added metformin, which helped a little. Then I went to a compounding pharmacy and got on a GLP-1.

Now my cholesterol is good, my LDL is low, and my triglycerides are almost normal.

I'm convinced my arteries are actually healing. I'm going to be around for my family. In 2022, I seriously thought I was going to die. I kept getting this feeling to get my affairs in order. That feeling, plus chest pains, got me to the cardiologist who saved my life.

Now that feeling is gone. I almost miss it, lol. Insurance doesn't cover it, so I'm going the grey market route. I have a stockpile to last me a couple of years. My plan is to stay on it until generics become available.

It's also eliminated my alcohol cravings. I know it's not a fix-all for everything, but it's been life-changing. Years of therapy didn't even work like this!

I've spent too much of my life fixated on eating, dieting, and binging. This medication allows me to focus on things that make me happy, so I'm fine with being on it forever.

I dont wanna be that person, but you still have diabetes. If you stop the meds, your glucose will rise. It's managed well BECAUSE of the medication. Diabetics will need to take Ozempic or something similar for the rest of our lives.

100% yes from me. I'm a type 1 diabetic, but I also have autism, ADHD, EDS and PMDD. I can't feel full without Wegovy. I've had BED my whole life and have gone up and down in weight for years. If I'm not starving myself, I'm gaining weight. Wegovy shuts off the constant thoughts about food and limits my intake to a "normal" portion, and I don't crave sweets afterwards. Also, I'm not over-treating my lows, so my blood sugars are more stable. It's completely changed my life!

New drugs are coming, so they might get to the point where you only need a shot once a month or even longer. We don't know what they'll discover. I think this is only the beginning of better medications.

When you think about how GLP-1s over time could eliminate the need for blood pressure pills, diabetes meds, and statins (I know someone who lost 100lbs and got off 3 medications), why wouldn't you trade daily pills for one shot a week, with less side effects...?

My doctor said from the start not to start this med unless I wanted to take it forever. That's my plan, God willing.

The research shows that obesity is a chronic disease and GLP-1s and bariatric surgery only manage it. Like statins and blood pressure meds, these approaches suppress the condition but don't cure it. Stop the treatment, and the condition comes back.

Yep.

People don't understand when I say I'd do anything for this medication.

And yeah, the weight loss is nice, but the mental clarity this gives you is impossible to describe to someone who hasn't had obsessive thoughts and compulsive habits.

All that energy, all that mental space, all those years wasted stressing and obsessing about food, calories, weight, dieting... gone.

Plus, my IBS is so much better.

Sign me up for life. I don't get people who want to stop taking it (not for medical/financial reasons) because they "don't want to be on meds."

I have arthritis. No one says anything about me being on arthritis meds forever, but they do about this shot. I don't get why people make a big deal about needing THIS medicine forever. Obesity is a chronic condition, so if you stop the medicine, the symptoms return.

Yes, absolutely. I'm so happy with this medication, so thankful it exists, and I like what I'm reading about the other health problems it could help with.

I've been on it for over 2 years now, and I remember during my first month I told my friend, "I'll do anything to have this forever!" lol

I'm curious for those of you maintaining, how do you manage your diet now? Does your current dose still help keep cravings at bay?

It's also amazing how much easier it is to travel now. I'm going on a trip soon, and I'm so happy I don't have to worry about losing weight before I go or what I'm going to wear. It's such a relief!
