GLP-1s and IBS - anyone else?

Hong Kong Yanpep International
I think it matters whether you lean toward constipation or diarrhea. I'm prone to diarrhea, so I handle Ozempic okay as long as I don't eat too much junk food.

I've got IBS-D, and Ozempic stopped it completely. Usually, I had to run to the bathroom in the mornings, but now things are different. Though, now I'm dealing with constipation since starting Seroquel - haven't gone in almost a week and had to use an enema! Now I go every few days and need stool softeners, which is the opposite of what I'm used to! Everyone's different, but it might be worth a try.

I started three days ago. No more loose stools, no gas, felt nauseous yesterday, but I'm okay today. My gut needed a break.

I haven't found it much worse, now that I'm used to it. Same low-level cramps that I've had for ages, comes and goes. I still get constipation and diarrhea and normal movements. Same as before. It's maybe even a little better since I've lost like 20% of my weight.

Glad to hear it's helping you! The nausea can be rough, but hopefully, it'll pass quickly. I found that sipping ginger ale helped.

Wow, so many people saying it IMPROVED their IBS... that's wild. I'm so afraid of making things worse. Thanks for sharing your experiences, everyone!

It's interesting how these meds affect people differently. My friend had to stop because of severe constipation. I'm managing okay, but I've been extra careful about staying hydrated. I have to pee all the time!

The frequent urination might be related to better blood sugar control initially, if that's part of why you're on it. But definitely keep an eye on it.

Been on it about 9 months now and honestly I'm just running on the med at this point. Went through some heavy stuff right after starting so my energy never bounced back. But before this, I spent 15 years thinking about food, weight, body—every single day. Was mentally exhausted. Now I'm not stressed about it all and that alone feels like I can finally breathe.

Sorry to hear that, mine went the opposite direction honestly. My IBS-D basically disappeared, maybe three flare ups total over three months. Down 17 pounds too, still just on .25mg. Definitely didn't expect the gut improvement, nice surprise though.

Dealt with IBS-D for 23 years, and Ozempic is what finally made me constipated, something that's never once happened to me before.

Honestly, it's the Miralax doing that. Without it I could easily go a full week without going.

Before starting Ozempic I used to react strongly to things like Imodium and Miralax. That's not the case anymore, but appreciate you trying to explain something I'm already well aware of.

First run with an older-generation GLP1, yeah I bailed at the end of week two. Was on ozempic, went in knowing what to expect. I lean on either an osmotic laxative or just a banana, leftover habit from IBS that's mostly resolved these days.

No firsthand experience myself, but came across posts elsewhere on this forum mentioning people with IBS seeing improvement on mounjaro. Worth searching through older threads on the topic.
