GLP-1s: Face and Skin changes?

I've read that as you lose weight, your hormones fluctuate. Makes sense that you might see acne flares because of that!

Yes! Body fat stores hormones. When you lose weight, those hormones get released. Something to be aware of.

I've been seeing way more acne ever since starting sema. It's really annoying because I'm feeling great otherwise!

I think 0.5 to 2 lbs per week is the sweet spot. Going faster puts stress on your body and doesn't leave time to build healthy habits. Skin needs time to adjust too.

This med is a tool like a shovel — makes the digging easier (no food noise) but you still work. Snacking's still a problem? Kill it. Get rid of the junk, replace with washed fruit and veggies. Greek yogurt and fruit for dessert. Couple weeks and your brain resets. Fuel yourself with high protein and fiber. Drink water like you get paid. Aim for 1 oz per pound.

The face changes on GLP-1s track two effects - volume loss from fat reduction shows fast, while the metabolic improvement in skin quality builds over months and is less dramatic but more durable.

The face fat pad effect is real and the rate of loss matters - people who drop weight faster tend to show more hollow facial changes than slower-paced losers at the same end weight, which is part of why gradual approaches tend to age better in the face.

Always struggled with a fuller face that never quite sat right with me. Honestly one of the main reasons behind starting this medication in the first place.

Probably tracks more with body fat percentage than the medication itself. My excessive sweating issue has improved so much since dropping this much weight. Before, walking into any heated space would have sweat pouring from me almost instantly, that transition from cold outside to a warm room used to be brutal. Losing weight in the past without medication, I noticed the same gradual improvement in that symptom. There is a heat wave going on right now and I barely broke a sweat on a casual walk, which felt great. Also noticed I run colder these days at my current weight compared to being the exact same weight a couple years back. Really does point toward body fat percentage, or maybe more lean muscle, being the real driver here.

Man, some people just end up with loose skin once the fat comes off, that's it.

This whole 'ozempic (insert body part)' thing is nonsense. Anyone who's lost weight before GLP-1s existed already knows this.

Lost hair the whole time this medication was active. Personal take is it came from the drug itself, though plenty will argue otherwise. Nothing really helped on this end, though some people report a topical treatment making a difference. Doesn't seem like switching within this drug class solves it either, since others on a different one in the same class deal with the identical issue.
