GLP-1s: More than just weight loss?

Hey everyone! I've always struggled with emotional eating, and honestly, the only time I felt truly "thin" was during a really dark period when I was using crystal meth for around 5 years. I've been clean for almost 4 years now, thankfully, but one of the hardest things has been dealing with the weight gain that came with getting healthy again. It sounds shallow, but I missed how I looked back then (even though I was obviously super UNhealthy!).

I started taking Wegovy maybe 6 months ago, and it's been a total game changer. My self-esteem is way better, and I actually like looking in the mirror again. The constant "food noise" in my head is so much quieter now, and I'm making way better food choices. I have a pretty physical job, so I stay active, but the meds have helped me realize how much diet matters! Plus, my cravings for the bad stuff are totally gone. Don't mind my terrible old tattoos lol.

Just a quick reminder to everyone in this thread about our guidelines. Please refrain from discussing non-approved versions of these medications. Sharing sources is also not allowed in the community. Thank you!

Wait a sec, has anyone noticed how your tattoos look... better? Like, the colors are brighter and they seem less stretched out now that your skin is different! That's kinda awesome!

So incredibly proud of you, ZepboundZoe, for getting clean from such a terrible addiction. It's amazing you pulled yourself out of that and it's not worth revisiting. Congrats on your progress; you're looking fantastic! And your ink actually looks pretty cool.

Life is good! Congratulations on the sobriety, weight loss, and all the confidence you are building! Keep going!

Huge congrats on getting clean!! Been clean since '09 myself. You kicked ass!! Hardest thing ever!! Looking good!!

I saw something interesting the other day... about how these GLP-1 meds might actually help with addiction. It's wild to think these drugs could impact more than just weight.

That's really interesting, RetaReadyy! I've definitely noticed that my cravings for sugary snacks are way down since starting Mounjaro. It's like the constant pull towards junk food has just... faded. Maybe it's a similar mechanism at play with other addictions?

There's definitely a connection between gut health, blood sugar regulation, and mental well-being. Anything that stabilizes blood sugar can have a positive effect on mood and cravings. It's all interconnected!
