Gonna stop cold turkey! Help!

Well, folks, after a solid couple of years and shedding nearly 130 pounds, my blood work is finally good. But the money people have decided my BMI isn't high enough anymore, so they're cutting me off. Not even a chance to slowly reduce my dose! I'm going from 2mg weekly, which I've been on for over a year, to absolutely nothing. We even tried to get another medication covered since I deal with sleep apnea, but they said no for the same reason – BMI "too low." Whatever that's supposed to mean.

Any advice for stopping suddenly? I'm worried this will be rough. And if I gain the weight back, I bet it'll be even harder to get coverage, especially since my insurance is planning on making me pay more of the cost in the future. So frustrating.

Sneak some weights into your pockets at the doc's office haha!

Seriously though, that sucks. I always suggest looking into online options. See what the cost would be. They might even get you started at 2mg.

Congrats on accomplishing your goals! Have you considered carefully tracking calories and adding some resistance training? I remember reading how it helped someone prevent weight regain.

You should check around for semaglutide compound pharmacies. They're pretty reasonably priced. I've seen some places as low as $80 or $100 a month.

Ugh, companies are awful!

My advice for stopping suddenly is: carefully count calories, keep an eye on portion sizes, avoid snacking too much (especially between meals), and try to be physically active when you can.

Tracking calories is super helpful during that time of the month when the cravings hit hard.

Maybe try a compounding pharmacy? Get vials of the medicine and stay on a maintenance dose? Just a thought to discuss with your doctor!

Could you pay out-of-pocket for a bit just to taper off the medication? Insurance should really cover it, but it might be worth it to avoid stopping abruptly.

I feel you

I've heard similar stories. I wonder if you can find a weight loss doctor who can prescribe compound medications for cheaper? My insurance covers my visits, but I pay out of pocket for the actual meds which are about $65 a month.

For real! I've heard of a lot of people going with compounded medications. Some online places have doctors who can prescribe. Just make sure you do your research and find a good one.

Your buddy deserves a candid conversation with some hard truths. I spent three decades as a smoker before I finally quit completely, cut alcohol too, and shed weight. Now heading into early retirement at 60, I want the fitness and mobility to enjoy it without getting winded walking around. Most people say they want change but very few actually commit. Your friend needs a genuine jolt of reality, firm encouragement, and drive. Nothing worthwhile comes without effort and fighting for it.

Usually drop a few pounds overnight but maybe not if I'm fasting. Gonna test it through tomorrow. If hunger wins I've got some turkey and salmon prepped at work I can grab.
