How long 'til I can party again?

Okay, maybe the title's a little much, haha. I've been on semaglutide for like, two months now, and I'm thinking of stopping soon because, well, money. My friend's having a bachelorette party soon, and I'm wondering if I'll be able to drink. When I drink on sema, it's just... no fun. I don't even get a buzz, it's like I can't feel anything. I know it stays in your system for a bit, so anyone know what to expect? I wanna stay on it as long as I can, but I also need to time this right!

If you don't eat something BEFORE you drink, one drink will feel like three. And drink lots of water!

Girl, the delayed stomach thing makes drinking a nightmare for me. Just a super delayed reaction, and then ALL the bad stuff hits at once. Not worth it in my opinion!

If you really want to enjoy that bachelorette party, you should probably stop taking it a month before (I'm saying this because I understand that gross feeling when drinking). But keep in mind that after being off it for a month, you will probably have to start your dosages at the lowest level again to avoid adverse effects.

I still have drinks sometimes, just not as much as I used to.

I figured out early on that beer makes me feel like CRAP - my body doesn't process it quickly enough anymore - so I end up throwing it all up. Plus, I need like a dozen beers to get the buzz I want.

Now I drink vodka with flavored bubbly water, make 'em strong, and sip 'em slow - so I can get a little buzz without all the extra liquid.

It works great.

It's not about IF I drink, it's WHAT I drink.

It's the delayed gastric emptying that causes that. Same reason my ADHD meds don't hit like they used to.
I don't drink anymore, so I'd just say smoke some weed instead!
I mean, that's my advice either way. Drinking's overrated. You have fun, don't get a DUI, skip the downer effect, and no hangover. Win-win-win!

Semaglutide sticks around for a while. It's got a half-life of about a week, so it takes about a month for most of it to leave your system.

People usually notice appetite, digestion, and how they handle alcohol changing after a week or three of stopping, but feeling totally "normal" again can take closer to a month. While you're still on it, or just after stopping, alcohol can feel awful because semaglutide slows down your stomach and might dull the reward you get from drinking.

So if you stop right before the party, you'll probably still feel the ick. Most people feel better several weeks after their last dose, not just a few days.

I can still drink on 2.4mg, no prob. It just takes longer to kick in. I wish I'd gotten that "I don't want to drink" side effect, though!

The half-life is 7 days, hence in a two-week period it should be mostly out of your system. There could be lingering effects that last longer, but my mom did something similar. She had great weight loss but didn't like how food and alcohol weren't as appealing (which, obviously, is how it works!) and wanted to go off for the holidays. She was back to normal with food and drinks in about two weeks.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I'm thinking maybe I'll just ease up on the dose for a week or two before, instead of stopping cold turkey. Hopefully that'll help me enjoy the party without, you know, spending the whole time in the bathroom lol.

I've heard some people experience other changes besides just appetite stuff after stopping. Like, one person mentioned a drop in anxiety after they stopped. Which, if true, is kinda wild. Anyone else experience non-weight-related changes after quitting?

I've been on other peptides for a while (not for weight loss, more for anti-aging stuff), and honestly, sometimes I wonder if they're even doing anything. It's so subtle that it's hard to tell. I'm thinking of taking a break to see if I notice a difference. Anyone else feel like that sometimes?

I read something about how overeating can be a form of self-harm. That really hit me hard. I'd never thought of it that way before, but it makes so much sense. Like, you're trying to feel something, anything, to distract from whatever's going on inside. It's crazy how much clearer your head gets when you're not constantly thinking about food.

Great to hear about the long-term wins! My nutritionist wants me eating more carbs even though I usually avoid simple ones. Doing my best to balance healthy eating with what they recommend.

Abdomen injection for the first time left me frozen - had the needle in me but felt absolutely nothing. Panicked thinking I'd damaged some nerves. Hit the lower part, couple inches to the side and below the navel. Weird moment but worth the learning curve.

Could be you're just a fast responder. Took me months ramping to 0.25, still climbing from there slowly. You can stay at wherever you need. Just make sure you're getting protein and fiber in.

Now at normal BMI and been shopping constantly. Dresses, pencil skirts, sweaters, everything. Got a whole new closet. Don't go out much but going to dress up for everything now. Long sleeves only because of meds but feel good.

You don't have to take long breaks honestly. Try 5 days on and 2 days off, or just keep going with no breaks at all. That's what I do and it works fine.
