Hunger creeping back after day 5?

I've been looking at how GLP-1 meds work for people, and I keep seeing a pattern:

First 2 days -> queasy

Days 3-5 -> feeling good, appetite controlled

Days 6-7 -> hunger is back!

Seems like the medication is wearing off by then.

People often:

* Increase their dose too soon
* Cut calories way back
* Get worried

But maybe there's a better way.

Anyone else notice this happening?

What do you do when the hunger returns?

EDIT: This discussion is great! I'm wondering if it's less about the medication and more about our weekly routines.

Started last Thursday on the lowest dose. Sometimes my stomach is a bit off and I feel tired. Today's day 5 and I could definitely eat more, but I'm managing. I've dropped about 8 lbs which is amazing! I used to take kradom, 7oh for about a year which is supposed to mess with your hormones. Maybe this is helping reverse some of that. Waiting for blood work, but I feel much better already. I'm F62, 5'8, started at 200 lbs, now 192. Hope this gives someone hope if they're thinking about trying it!

That was me too. Days 6-7 I'd get super hungry and either eat too much or just feel awful waiting for the next dose. Protein is the answer.

Same here. I am not too concerned. For the first few days, I struggle to eat. Then, on days 6/7, I eat more. It balances out for me. Or that is what I tell myself!

Yes! Or maybe my willpower wears off as the week goes on. I inject on Mondays, so I often go out for dinner on the weekends, have some drinks, and choose less healthy food. It wasn’t a problem until recently, and I told myself it was okay since I ate very little Tuesday/Wednesday and ate well in a calorie deficit Thursday/Friday, so I could splurge a bit on weekends. I think I’m still in a calorie deficit on those days, but I’m choosing foods that don’t have enough fiber/protein and upset my stomach compared to the rest of the week.

Now that I'm close to my goal and the weight loss has slowed, I think I need to be stricter again. Also, thinking about switching to maintenance and lowering my dose once I hit my goal weight, these habits will cause me to gain weight back!

I totally get what you mean

. It's like the weekend is a free pass, but it catches up to you eventually. Gotta stay focused!

It's amazing how much mental space these meds free up. I used to spend so much time thinking about food.

A lot of people respond by: increasing dose early, cutting calories harder, panicking
I used to do all those things, and it just made it worse. Now I can actually focus on other things.

It's so true about the mental freedom. I've got so much extra time in my day now since I'm not obsessing over what to eat. I'm more productive at work and feel less stressed overall. It really is life-changing.

Been on medication since late December, down about 25lbs total. Yesterday I got so deep into work stuff-emails, problem-solving, deadline-that I didn't notice lunchtime till I sat down. Ate a few bites of chicken and was full, needed to get back. Hit my snack stash at 4pm just to make sure I get my protein in. Water intake keeps me running to the bathroom constantly. Eating feels like something I have to remember instead of wanting to.

Been on the med with my wife for several weeks at different doses. Started at 1.0 and moved to 1.5, she's at 2 since her situation needed it. The digestive stuff hit us around day 2-3 after injection but we manage. No emotional changes though honestly I was already grumpy!

on my 3rd shot of .25 & my appetite's roaring back stronger than the first week. food noise was gone then, now it's loud & i crave salty stuff again. terrified to jump to .5 tho cause i've heard horror stories.

started ribelsus in 2023 and it was amazing for about 8 months. then it stopped working, food noise came back, appetite returned. after 6 months i started gaining again. upped the dose, nothing. switched to ozempic, nothing. went off for 6 months, started again, still nothing. at 14 mg now and gained all the weight back. is there another GLP-1 that could get me back to how 2023 felt?
