Insurance probs & alternatives?

Hi everybody!

I began using Oz back in January of last year. I was super nervous at first, but this group was great. I remember checking this forum a ton before my initial dose. Your encouragement helped me finally do it. Thank you! I'm now down about 75 pounds, currently weighing around 200.

I recently learned my insurance will no longer cover Oz for pre-diabetes, only for type 2 diabetes. I'm not type 2.

I'd appreciate any advice.

My choices are to get a compounded semaglutide prescribed by my doctor from a compounding pharmacy, or I can shell out $990 monthly for an 8mg pen. I would then lower my dosage to a maintenance level and try and expand it to several months. (I'm on 2mg currently.)

Has anybody changed from OZ to a compounded sg?

(Same applies insurance-wise to Monjaro and similar meds.)

Thanks a lot!

In the last 11 months, I've managed to drop 85lbs using compounded tirz! A local pharmacy gets my prescription directly from my PCP. I'm happy to send the onboarding info to you if you want to check it out!

I get my Ozempic from Canada. My doctor suggested it since it's too expensive here in the States.
She writes me a script for a 4ml pen. It costs $429 and lasts for 2-3 months because I use a small dose (.25 - .50). They also carry Wegovy, Zepbound, Monjaro...
Good luck with your weight reduction journey!

I use a service called orderly meds. It's $199 for a 4 week supply and it doesn't fluctuate if you increase the dosage like 1mg is $199 2mg is $199 I've been using them for over a year .

Compounded is OK! Custom dosing and complementary vitamins can help balance side effects and dietary requirements. If I were you, I wouldn't hesitate to pick the compound route.

I'm based in Canada and wouldn't be able to get OZ coverage through insurance. I use My Rocky - $300/month with a $40 consultation charge. I'm also relatively new to this - on .50 - and have shed 8 lbs in 1 month.
Your hair is gorgeous.
Congrats on your success.

I take a compounded sema. The only side effect I experience is intermittent constipation. I can't compare it to the "real" deal, of course, but it works for me!

After losing 80 pounds naturally, my doctor wouldn't give it to me to help me lose the last 50. (I was stuck and plateaued, feeling down and just needed that additional help) Now I'm searching for a new doctor! I spend $179 each month. I've been at 1 for the last three months. It's been effective, so I haven't increased it yet. I appreciate being able to dose myself. Instead of the jump from .5 to 1, I stayed at .75 for two weeks to help my system adapt.

I've used Oz for over a year and am experiencing the same problem. It will now cost me over $900 a month. I'm not willing to pay that. However, it basically stopped working about three months ago. I've been taking it, but I've put on about 20 or 25 of the 50 pounds I lost. It's incredibly disappointing.

I'm not sure if I should switch to a compounded version or stop altogether.

I saw a doctor discussing how they get Ozempic approved for patients whose A1C is just below the cutoff for diabetes (6.5). They suggest doing a Glucose Tolerance Test, which is more sensitive, and can sometimes get a diabetes diagnosis that way. Of course, being diagnosed with diabetes can have other implications for insurance, so it's something to think about.

If it stopped working, maybe it's time to explore other options besides sema, even something non-medical. Sometimes our bodies just adjust, and it's hard to push past that resistance.

told brello i was at 10 and wanted 12.5, so they shipped me 180mg (9 vials of 20mg each) for $499. that's $2.77 per mg vs 30 cents gray market. had leftovers but the convenience was real. they go by month not dose.

bloods really matter for dosing. i was at 0.5iu, worked up to 2iu but my igf went way off charts so i took a break. doing bloods every 6-8 weeks. my hair's insane on this stuff.

8 weeks in at 5mg and getting the worst of both worlds — constant nausea but no weight loss. appetite's down but apparently not down enough to move the needle. kinda stuck between pushing through, asking about a higher dose, or just calling it. pretty defeated rn.
