Major rash from my shot?!

Okay, this is a long shot, but has anyone else experienced this or know someone who has? I know it's rare, only affects like, 2-4% of people, so I'm not super hopeful.

I'm so bummed. I've been on MJ 2.5mg for about 2 months now for weight management, and I've shed about 16 pounds. But for the last few injections, I've gotten this itchy, red bump at the injection site. Didn't think too much of it, but the last couple weeks have been brutal. I've got a full-blown rash, bumps everywhere, my hands are covered in these little blisters that are SO itchy. I've been to the ER a couple times. My family doctor finally saw me and said I have to stop the injections immediately. He thinks it's a delayed allergic reaction, and I'm lucky it wasn't anaphylaxis. Now I'm on a bunch of steroids.

I didn't have a ton of weight to lose, but I was dealing with binge eating. I've never had a good relationship with food until I started MJ, and now it's over. I was finally feeling good, getting my confidence back after putting on some weight. I'm at a decent weight now, but I'm just so sad. I guess I just have to try and keep it off and stick with the healthy eating. :broken_heart:

I get a rash like that when I take a sulfa drug. You should definitely talk to your doctor.

Definitely stop the injections and finish the steroid treatment. Take antihistamines as prescribed.

I wouldn't try anything in the tirzepatide class again if I were you, as a reaction like that could be deadly.

Maybe after a few months, try a different medication like Ozempic or Wegovy at the lowest dose. Ask your doctor about prescribing an EpiPen in case of an emergency.

I had that! I stopped for about a year and switched to Ozempic. When I tried Mounjaro again, the rash wasn't an issue anymore.

It happened after my first dose. It seemed like it was interacting with another med I was on. I continued the injections and discontinued the other medication, which I had started at the same time. The rash stopped. Coincidence? I have no clue, but shortly after that, I added the other medicine back with no issues.

I haven't experienced that, and I've been on it since early 2025. I don't have any advice, but I wanted to say I'm sorry you're dealing with that. It looks so uncomfortable. Sending good vibes your way! 🥰

Oh my goodness, I haven't heard of that happening, but it looks miserable, and I hope it gets better soon! I can relate to the problems with overeating and how helpful Mounjaro can be, so I hope you can safely get back on it or find another option. 💛

ISR has been a nightmare. Went from 6mm to 8mm needles, switched injection sites, added more bac water, epinephrine/lidocaine, massage gun, cut the dose way down. Last night's 12.7mm was the first time the sting faded and no welt showed up.

I got a rash on my torso – especially my chest – and a bit on my arms and legs.

I thought it might be hives or an allergy. But it was diagnosed as a fungal infection. The creams didn’t work, so I was put on tablets. They have helped, but it took the whole month for it to go away. I’ve just finished the tablets and I hope it doesn’t come back...

I hope you feel better soon.

we naturally lose muscle, bone, and fat in our face as we age but we also gain fat in certain spots — getting older's wild. rapid weight loss speeds that up. it's pick your poison: slimmer body and face or fuller everything. i'm choosing health and can always get a good injector for ha later if needed.

I get them pretty much every time, and I'm on 10mg. I get a big welt at the injection site that itches all week. I try to dab the area after injecting to soak up any leakage, and that sometimes helps a little. But the best way I've found to ease the itching is to use cortisone cream several times a week.

Hopefully, Wegovy works for you to quiet the food chatter. I know it doesn't help right now, but the pill version of Mounjaro (orforglipron) is probably only 2-3 months away from being approved. That might work since it's not injected. There are tons of posts where people think the skin reactions are due to issues with injecting, like it's too shallow. There are also GLP-1s in the works from other biotech companies that are different peptides than Mounjaro/Zepbound. Don't get discouraged; there are SO many new drugs in stage 3 trials that will be here soon!

I had this in my underarms, but it lasted for like 5 months. Happened on both Ozempic and Mounjaro. My doctor gave me a topical, and it eventually cleared!

Thank you, everyone, for sharing your experiences and suggestions! @Donut I think I'll take your advice and maybe try a different GLP-1 later on, but I'm definitely going to wait a while. The thought of another reaction is scary. And @FoxMom, that's good to know about the pill form - I'll keep an eye out for that!

I came across something that might be helpful for anyone starting one of these meds. I saw someone mention that it takes about a month for the medication to reach its peak concentration in your system. So, reactions or side effects might show up around that 30-40 day mark, not immediately after the injection. Just something to keep in mind!
