Meat and eggs gross now!?

I've been taking semaglutide for a little under a month, and for the past 10 days or so, pretty much all meat and eggs make me feel sick. It's a new thing. Like I'm suddenly super sensitive to smells I never noticed before, and I start to gag before I even taste anything. I even tried a fancy cut of beef from my favorite place, and nope. Anyone else have this happen? And are protein drinks and beans a good enough substitute?

Yep, I had that happen too, but it didn't last. The worst was coffee because I love my morning coffee. I've been on sema for about a year and a half (met my goal!) and I'm just now able to drink a whole cup in the morning.

Totally normal, I'm dealing with the same thing right now. But just protein shakes and beans aren't going to cut it, you gotta make sure you're getting all your nutrients somehow!

Ugh, the egg thing is so true @ATL_Lois. I used to live on eggs, and now the smell alone makes me want to run away.

Have you heard of Ashley Koff? She's a dietitian who talks about nutrition while on GLP-1 meds. She mentioned a drink that's specifically for people like us, supposed to help with nausea and protein absorption. I'm still looking into it, but I might give it a try. Protein shakes are so inconsistent for me--some days they're fine, other days my stomach says no way.

I've been on it for over a year, and the aversions come and go. I've had them to salads, coffee, chicken, lunch meat, and leftovers in general (can't eat the same thing twice, so no meal prep for me). I also get random cravings, like for oranges and other citrus. It makes grocery shopping a nightmare because I'm always throwing away food I can't eat.

Protein shakes, lentils and beans are good sources of protein. Just make sure you're consuming an adequate amount. I'd recommend adding chia seeds. They're full of good fats, are calorie-dense, and have protein and fiber.

I've been on this for several months and I still have an aversion to cheese. I can eat it on top of food, like parmesan on pasta, but any more than a little tastes like a salty nightmare. It's annoying since I'm a vegetarian and used to get a lot of protein from cheese.

Oh my gosh, yes! It's terrible, I feel like I can't find anything I can eat, let alone enjoy. I've been on tirz since late January and dropped about 40 lbs, but I've been stuck for a while now because I don't eat enough.

I pretty much live on protein shakes, which is why I'm thinking of switching to sema. My mom and husband are on it, their sugar cravings are gone, and they can handle food much better. All I want is sweets and junk food. I've even been on a few cruises since I started (so much delicious food!), but everything tasted off. I did lose a little weight because I could eat a tiny bit of everything, but it feels like I hate food because everything tastes different. (I also stopped smoking over a year ago, so that might be part of it.)

And I'm 60, so the weight doesn't come off as easily as it did when I was younger. I need to change something because, like you, I'm gagging on my food.

I'm kinda the opposite

I find I need to be way more careful with healthy choices since starting. Before sema I would just grab fast food, now I actually think about it.

I totally get that feeling @Jordan. I spent so many years trying to control my appetite that I'm loving not being constantly hungry! Now that I'm at my goal weight and on maintenance, I can enjoy some of my old favorites, but I'm happy with half a burger and a few fries instead of the whole thing and a pile.

Anyone else feel like the meds stop working after a few days? I'm on 1mg, and get nausea and weird burps for 2-3 days, then the other days I'm so hungry I can eat as much as before. The cravings are intense but I can manage them.

It's not always 100%. It takes time to learn how to manage the food noise. I dropped nearly 150 lbs, and I'm still on 2mg. I CAN eat some days.

I take my shot Thursday nights, and I feel kinda blah on Friday. Saturday and Sunday I'm pretty full and the food noise is gone, then Monday it starts coming back stronger until Thursday. I thought about upping my dose, but I don't want to be at the max, so I'm focusing on diet and exercise those days when I'm hungrier.

I have to push through eating boiled eggs plus protein bars. Up at 3:30am and food doesn't enter my thoughts till afternoon around 2pm or later.

less than 25g and i feel miserable. your boyfriend's got great taste -- pasture raised bison and chicken hit different. once you go that route, regular meat just doesn't appeal.

The protein advice is right, but GLP-1 meat and egg aversion cuts off the most bioavailable sources exactly when you need them - powder and bars fill the gap until the aversion passes, which it usually does by month 2-3 as the dose stabilizes.
