Muscle Loss: A Serious GLP-1 Side Effect?

The ipamorelin probably plays a role here. It builds muscle when you're training and can cause some water retention. Both of those things work against seeing fat loss on the scale, which is something I've noticed too.

Coming here to learn has been really helpful. Read a lot of the clinical stuff and hydration notes. Cold feet showed up but that's it so far. Honestly expected muscle to hold up better with a slower pace, so this full stop caught me off guard.

Right, the mechanisms don't compete. GHK-Cu is mostly about tissue remodeling and gene expression shifts, glutathione is the antioxidant clearance side. They're addressing different downstream effects of the same stressor. Running both doesn't create redundancy - they fill separate slots. The combination makes more sense than either alone if someone is dealing with accelerated catabolism on GLP-1.

The heart-is-a-muscle point is the one that gets under-discussed with rapid weight loss - cardiac muscle has the same protein-intake dependency as skeletal muscle. At 77, asking specifically about bone density alongside the standard labs is worth doing; the threshold conversation is different at this age.

Dropping weight faster than that raises the odds of losing muscle along with it. On top of that, you're still barely into the therapeutic dosing range.

Basically this. You're gonna lose some muscle along with the fat no matter what you do. Just gotta stay on top of exercising properly and eating enough of the right stuff.

Losing muscle alongside the weight is just reality, that's a fact. Went through a solid eighteen week program working with a registered dietician on exactly this.

spent fifteen years powerlifting before age related injuries forced me to stop, had a good run with it. that sport made me incredibly strong but also carried extra weight. shed 80 pounds over the past two years. six months into sema, heavy lifts are basically off the table thanks to being in such a prolonged deficit. powerlifting and a calorie deficit just don't mix well for my body. doing mostly bodybuilding style training these days instead. i look great but strength has slipped a fair amount, stings sometimes, though i've mostly made peace with it.
