My Mounjaro Experience - Long Post

8 months ago I was pushing 350. Diabetes hit bad, lost like 35 pounds real quick, and doc gave me the news January 11th. Blood sugar was sky high, over 300. A1C was 11.

Today, June 21st, I'm down to 220. Here's my thoughts on Mounjaro.

  • My sleep apnea was terrible. Two weeks in, I was sleeping solid all night. Amazing.
  • I'd say Mounjaro helped with maybe 15% of the weight loss. Diet and exercise are key.
  • I wanted to go slow, so I've been on 5mg for 3 months now, first 3 months were 2.5mg. No rush to go higher. This stuff is strong; go slow.
  • I don't drink, eat junk, or mix bad foods. If I do, I'm super sick. Watch what you eat, especially mixing dairy like ice cream with meat.
  • Mental side is both good and bad. Suppression, motivation, energy are great. But it can mess with my emotions. Gotta manage it.
  • It's true what they say, "Once you focus on yourself, people get mad." People don't like your success and judge you. They'd rather see you fail. Lost my best friend because of jealousy. So, I really lost 390 pounds, counting him and his negativity. Over 20 years of friendship, gone.
  • This isn't easy. No quick fix. Gotta put in the work for results.
  • I only weigh myself once a month or at the doc. Daily weighing messed with me and sent me back to bad habits.
  • Finally, I found good people in this forum and on TikTok who get it. Social media helps with motivation.
I added a before and after. Scroll to the end to see me now.

What an amazing transformation! I'm sorry about your friend, but I'm glad you're prioritizing your health. You're a true inspiration!!

Great job! I totally agree that even with meds, it's not a magic bullet. You have to work at it. If you were injecting insulin, people might understand better. Sometimes the closest people are the worst.

I'm sorry about your friend. That must be tough. You packed a lot of emotion into a few sentences, and I hope you're healing.

Good luck, and thanks for the motivation!

Cutting out toxic people can be even harder than losing the weight, but you clearly put yourself first, and that's inspiring.

Not everyone cheers when you succeed—that's how you know you're on the right track. ✌️

Congrats! It's surprising how many of us have lost friendships through this process. A friend is divorcing her husband because he's trying to sabotage her weight loss progress at every chance.

Awesome job!!

For what it's worth, I had to let go of a best friend because she couldn't support me on my journey. It's ok. Some friendships aren't meant to last. You're doing great. The future is bright.

I'm sorry about your friend, Mike2002. It's never an enemy that hurts you the most. Maybe the common thread among obese folks is not caring for themselves. Once you do, bad habits and toxic people disappear. You look amazing and must feel it too. You're glowing!

You're doing awesome! You look like you've aged backwards 2 decades! It's hard work, but it pays off if you commit. Sorry about your friend. That's really sad.

Keep up the great work on becoming a healthier, better you! 😊

It's interesting how everyone's experience on these meds varies so much. I've been on it for over a year and it's been steady weight loss and no real side effects. Lucky me, I guess!
