Ozempic changed your taste buds?

Hong Kong Yanpep International
Three years in and the taste shift still hasn't reversed - that's one of the longer-running anecdotal reports on carbonated drink aversion. The flavored water enhancer pivot ends up working for most people because the sweetness translates without the carbonation texture that's become the problem.

coffee tasting bad on ozempic is one of the more specific taste changes that gets mentioned and it can be stubborn. the shift to 'beyond caring' about food in the OP is the bigger picture version of what you're describing with coffee. some people find the taste changes slowly reverse when the dose settles or when they switch mechanisms.

Food noise returning at 1mg after 2.5 years is consistent with what's documented about dose-response tolerance. The mechanism isn't fully understood but receptor sensitivity appears to shift at longer durations even when the pharmacokinetics stay constant. Moving up to 2mg or switching to tirzepatide would be the two most evidence-supported options from here.

The thing I like about Ozempic is being able to eat basically anything, but honestly my taste buds feel muted, almost like they've lost interest. Food just doesn't excite them anymore. Sweets don't hit the way they used to. Fresh produce still gets me excited though, and overall I still think the tradeoff is worth it

My eating habits have genuinely shifted, this medication dramatically changed my cravings toward whole foods. Staying pretty active too with weekly dance classes. Feels like my body's just determined to hold at 200lbs though.

Cheese now tastes like actual dirt to me. Used to be one of my favorite things. Food cravings come in waves for me, and I can always tell when a wave's ending because whatever I'm eating suddenly turns to dirt in my mouth. Yum, right?
Potato salad went the same route, used to love it, now it's basically chewing cardboard.
Haven't strayed too far from my usual eating though, feels like the medication's steering that ship these days.
Also notice I fixate on things less overall, and my mood's been steadier in general.
I live with major depressive disorder and I'm medicated for it, and I just came out of one of the roughest low periods I've ever had. Honestly crediting this drug class for both sides of that, the calmer stretch and the brutal dip alike.

Enjoyment fades across the board, not just around eating.

In my case, this drug class mostly dulled food specifically, while the other option hit basically everything and brought on some mild depression alongside it. Though obviously everyone reacts differently.
