People are saying I look *sick*?!

It's like, *suddenly* everyone has an opinion on my body.

I've dropped maybe 45 pounds, and now I hear daily, "You look like you're disappearing!" It's wild.

I told someone I'm not sure what my final goal weight is, I'm just aiming for healthier. I mentioned my target is around 155 (I'm at 180 currently). They gasped like I'd said I was going to the moon! "OMG, there will be nothing left of you!"

Seriously? I have to explain my autoimmune issues and how extra weight is crushing my joints? I swear, if I hear one more person say I'm developing an eating disorder because of some nausea, I might scream. Where were all these health experts when I was struggling before?

I finally hit 'overweight' on the BMI scale, and I'm celebrating! But all the comments, even the well-meaning ones, are getting to me.

I guess I'll just keep ignoring them and focusing on feeling better. Maybe I'll keep reminding them about the rheumatoid arthritis, that usually shuts them up. So glad the holiday gatherings are over because I honestly wanted to feel beautiful in my outfit but everyone just commented on my weight.

Thank goodness for my supportive friends. Cheers to all of us on this journey together! We're doing amazing!

Weight loss is a common topic of discussion, especially during the holidays. People often lack an understanding of the nuances of medical weight management and the impact of excess weight on conditions like rheumatoid arthritis.

I totally understand what you mean! I think, at least here in the US, our idea of what a healthy weight looks like is warped. It's so easy to be around people who are all overweight. Then suddenly, being a normal weight makes you "too thin." It's skewed. People are calling themselves mid size when their obese. It's a sign of a bigger problem in society. I wish we could address the food supply issues and our sedentary lifestyles. Someone calling me skinny doesn't flatter me, it just shines a light on issues with our culture.

People will ALWAYS have something to say. You're getting healthier, and that's what matters. They'll criticize you when you're heavier, they'll criticize you when you're lighter. It's a no-win situation. Don't feel the need to justify your health choices to anyone. You look amazing!

Ugh, why do people feel the need to comment?! I've shed about 20 pounds and am now at 175, and I'm getting comments like, "At your age, being too thin isn't a good look! It ages you!" Like, seriously? I'm 61, and 175 isn't exactly skeletal! I'm pretty sure it's a dig disguised as concern. I usually shut them down by saying my doctor’s thrilled with my progress and health. Why is this even a topic of conversation?!

Good heavens, darling. "Wasting away" at 180lbs? Please. You look great, and that weight is hardly unhealthy. Come talk to me when you're under 120.

I feel that many people's perception of what constitutes a healthy weight is distorted because a large part of the population is overweight. Few people notice someone being overweight until it's significantly impacting their health or unfortunately, when it's used for insults.

Skyler1986, as long as you're happy with how things are progressing, that's what truly counts.

Thank you for posting this. My mother seriously told me not to get *too* slender or I'll look like I'm on drugs. 🙄

When you start getting comments like that from other women, it's because they're worried you'll be more attractive than them. Just keep doing you!

It's also about clothes! I'm fitting into clothes I haven't worn in ages. It's a huge win for me! I'm so excited to go through my closet!

Ugh, that's such an awful thing to say! My family is the same. They think that thin = sick, and it's just not true. I'm the healthiest I've been in years!

I think it's really important to set goals that are realistic. I see so many people who think they can be size small. I will never be a size small because I am a mesomorph. It's great to lose weight but you also have to be honest about your body's limitations.
