Prevent muscle loss on Mounjaro is anyone actually managing this well long term

Running mounjaro for some time now and it's genuinely delivered on weight loss, but there's a persistent worry that keeps surfacing in conversations like this one, losing muscle along the way. From what's understood, it's less that this compound directly targets muscle and more that appetite drops enough to make hitting protein goals and maintaining lifting intensity genuinely difficult. Still, plenty of accounts describe losing strength or looking softer even as the scale keeps trending favorably. Trying to approach it more deliberately now, prioritizing protein and resistance training, but genuinely curious what real world routines have actually made a difference preventing muscle loss for people staying on this long term. Anyone found something that genuinely worked preserving strength while still cutting weight?

Started a bodyweight and resistance based fitness class about a month after beginning this medication. Builds strength and helps retain muscle effectively. Two and a half years later, still attending several times weekly. Lost 85 pounds with minimal noticeable muscle loss.

Any rapid weight loss carries muscle loss risk, that's not specific to Mounjaro itself, just a side effect of the weight coming off however it happens. Hit my goal about 4 months back, 65 lbs down, and actually kept muscle the whole way, gained some too. Made high protein eating the main focus, started slow with dumbbells at home, then eventually got a gym membership and trained three days a week.

Muscle loss isn't something Mounjaro itself causes.

Muscle gets lost whenever weight comes off, whether Mounjaro's involved or not. If someone's holding steady at their weight, with or without it, muscle loss shouldn't really happen.

You've got it right, Mounjaro on its own isn't what causes muscle loss, a calorie deficit is.

My rule has always been the best workout is whichever one you'll actually stick with, so sample a bunch of different things, classes, whatever, and keep what clicks.

Also worth getting some professional guidance when you're first starting out.

Question for everyone here. Does this medication actually cause muscle to shrink, or is it more that not eating enough and skipping exercise, same as any other diet, is what drives the muscle loss? Genuinely trying to figure this out for myself. Thanks.

Noticed real improvement across several vitamin and mineral shortfalls that had been bugging me for years.

That said, I'm eating more now than before starting Mounjaro, since weight was coming off fast early on and muscle loss became a real worry. So maybe that's part of what helped too. Either way, being able to cut back on and drop several supplements has been a genuine win.
