Reached my goal weight! Now what?

I did it! I started at 210 lbs, then I managed to drop 25 lbs on my own. And I shed another 45 lbs with the injections! So now I'm at 145 lbs. I never thought I'd get this far, so I never really planned for what happens now. How do I maintain?

I saw a group dedicated to maintaining weight after using these meds. Folks are reducing their doses or spacing them out when they get to their target weight. Some want to get off the meds completely, others just want a good balance. Anyway, congrats! You must feel fantastic!

Amazing work, that's a huge deal!

To answer your question... 🤷🏻‍♀️?

Do you plan to stop the medication, continue it, and have you made diet or lifestyle changes that will help you transition off the drug, if that's your goal?

It's hard to advise without this info.

Wow! That's incredible! As a former weight loss consultant, my advice is to really celebrate your success. You mentioned not believing you'd make it, so it's important to address that mentally, in addition to any practical steps. Donate your old clothes or sell them. Keep one outfit as a reminder (but don't let it imply you'll need it again!). Buy something new in your current size – go to a store and enjoy the experience. Mentally congratulate yourself often. If you used food for comfort or rewards, create alternative plans for when you're happy, sad, bored, or angry. Enjoy your new body and commit to taking care of it. Congrats!

I'm in the same boat! I paused to see how it would go, and the food noise came back like crazy, so I restarted. But I don't want to inject myself forever 🫠. I can manage healthy meals, but when there's food around (I work where there are constant sweets and snacks in the break room - nurses 🤪), I can't resist when I'm off the injections. I'm curious to see what others say.

I just discussed this with my doctor. He said that these meds are different from Keto, where weight loss continues. As your body finds its equilibrium, the med will help to maintain that weight. For patients on higher doses (I'm fine on .25), he gradually reduces it to .25. Then, for me (in about 15 more lbs), we'll extend the interval from once a week to every 10 to 14 days. Since I'm using it for T2, he wants me to stay on it permanently. My A1c went from 8.1 to 5.8.

He suggested increasing fat intake, like avocados. Adding butter/cream from grass-fed cows. Choosing full-fat yogurt/cottage cheese. Choosing fattier meats (chicken thighs instead of breasts). The portion sizes stay the same, but the calorie count increases.

Congrats!!

Congrats!!! You're an inspiration!

I’m in the same situation. I can't decide what to do. I’m thinking about tapering off and seeing what happens. I know I can eat healthy and exercise. I'm worried about the food noise and portion control.

Congrats on hitting your goal weight! How long did it take you to lose the 45 lbs once you started the injections? I'm almost done with my third dose, and I want to know how long it will take to lose 20 lbs.

I'm only 6lbs from my goal weight, and I'm panicking about what to do next. I lost weight through a very low-calorie, low-carb diet, which I know I can't maintain. Reintroducing carbs is terrifying. You look amazing, congrats! 👏

Congrats, your pics are motivating! 'What now' is a good question, haha. If we switch to a healthier lifestyle, we might be able to stop the injections after reaching our goals. But that's just my opinion; you should talk to your doctor. Everyone's different…

Yep, that's super common. These meds are like blood pressure meds - if you stop taking them, your body goes back to its 'normal'. This is a lifelong thing for most people.

I can see how scary it would be to stop completely. Maybe I should just plan to stay on a low dose forever? It's a little depressing to think about needing medication forever, but I guess it's better than being obese.
