Scale Obsession? Nah, Clothes!

Okay, folks, gotta confess I've been a bit of a mess lately. My weight's been stuck fluctuating around 3-4 pounds--which finally budged when I had a nasty stomach bug (yay?), only to bounce right back. I really don't want to rely on being sick to make progress. And I don't want to be a slave to the scale. The side effects are bad enough. I was feeling so down.

But then I tried on a pair of jeans I used to wear *all* the time. Remember those? The ones that were way too tight when I bought them, and I had to drop like, 5 pounds just to zip them up?

Now they're practically falling off.

So, I'm easing up on the self-criticism and the insane goals. I've gone from 225 to 170, from a size 14 to a size 4. I feel fantastic. Shopping is fun again. I've been holding steady at 168-170 all season. I think maybe this is where I'm meant to be!

I agree. Getting hung up on a few pounds when you're already a size 4 and spending hours at the gym isn't healthy. I worry about people developing obsessive behaviors with these meds.

I hope you can appreciate how far you've come and that you're already healthy and fit. You look great!

That's awesome! I had similar starting stats, around 220, and I'm down to 145. I'd like to lose maybe another 8lbs. I'm curious, how tall are you? I'm 5'6" and at 145, I'm a size 6. I'm hoping to get leaner, maybe 8 more pounds will do it!

I agree, it doesn't make sense to worry about a couple of pounds when you're already a 4. Your body might just be saying, "This is good enough." Honestly, I think nobody but you will even notice those last few pounds, and like you said, why kill yourself at the gym for 2 hours every day? That's not sustainable.

You're a size 4 at 170 lbs? Wow! I'm down from 275 to 165-170 and I'm a size 10/12! I'm pretty short and carry most of my weight in my hips, but you look amazing! Great job!!

My daughter told me she was 160, and I was like, no way, you look 135, maybe 140. She got on the scale, and I was surprised.

If people are curious you can look up a BMI calculator.

I understand. When I'm at my best weight of like 160, people act like I look like I'm at 140. I'm 5'10". I think a lot of it comes down to our culture thinking that women over a certain weight, around 150, are considered "too heavy." So someone who looks healthy can't possibly weigh more than that! It's so dumb.

I'm having a bit of a tough time. I've been on this for like, 6 weeks now and I've only dropped a measly 6 pounds. I feel like I gained a couple back even. I'm tracking my food, protein, water... I could probably exercise more, but still. Feeling defeated.

Don't give up hope after only a month and a half! The initial doses are usually just to get your body used to the medication. A lot of people don't really see strong appetite suppression until they get to the higher doses. And 6 pounds in 6 weeks is great too. Also, weight can change day-to-day because of water, sodium, etc.

Hey Dakota1976, I totally get it. I've been there. You might not see huge changes right away. It's more of a marathon than a sprint. Stick with it, and you'll probably see results as you increase the dose.

I saw the coolest before/after pic the other day! Somebody lost a lot of weight, but honestly they looked like they also reversed aging, too. I'm hoping for that effect!
