Scale's moving again - weigh-in question...

Hong Kong Yanpep International
Started this past Wednesday myself. Was holding off on weighing in for the first week, but curiosity got the better of me last night and I hopped on the scale. Down 0.7kg. Probably just water weight, but hey, something's moving.

4.5lbs weekly sounds too aggressive from what I understand. What's your total loss been, starting point versus where you're at now? Just genuinely curious.

You could probably stand to drink more, honestly. My own weight can swing 3-4lbs within just a couple hours some days. Everyone says skip the daily weigh-ins but I do it anyway lol.

Keep a log but only jot down the low points, and tracking back from mid-June through now shows a steady overall decline from the high 270s down into the low 260s, dropping roughly a pound every couple days on average.

Funny enough I weighed the exact same number twice in one day recently, plus a completely different reading a few hours later lol.

Usually weigh in weekly, averaging around half a kilo down each week, but partway through this particular week I checked and had gained half a kilo! Threw me off completely. Checked again the next morning and it had dropped back down that same half kilo. Today's official weigh-in showed a 0.3kg loss from last week. So I've concluded some fluctuation is just normal, especially for women. That's exactly why I stick to weighing in just once a week now.

What a frustrating situation! Betting a continued downward trend shows up over a longer stretch though. Weighing in weekly here usually shows a pattern, one week with a big drop, a couple weeks holding roughly steady, then a smaller drop toward the end of the cycle.

Noticed any similar pattern over two or four week windows?

Sending all the good vibes!

Any single day's weight can swing, even when you step on the scale at a fixed hour, from water retention, what's in your gut, and so on. Still, the overall direction is obviously downward. The earliest seven weigh-ins average about a pound above the latest seven, so I'd say progress is happening, and that's on the starter dose. Carry on!

I agree! I weigh daily but dont put stock in the number, its just to see the trend in weekly averages. Ive seen 5lb swings from one morning to the next. The body is crazy. Same time, same conditions helps (after the bathroom, before eating). But weekly and monthly trends smooth out and dont lie. My chart covers 10 weeks at 1mg. A 12 day plateau had me worried, though I chose to wait out two weeks. Then fresh lows appeared on back to back days and Im moving again. The pause came from old reta and a third round of heavy full body sessions, yet fat loss has now outpaced the additional muscle water from DOMS. Two full weeks of stall means I raise the dose or trim calories. Easy to overlook: a lighter body burns less at rest, so look out for genuine stalls and respond methodically.

If it's been under 8 weeks, I wouldn't sweat it. Fat cells fill with water to hold their shape, hoping to be refilled, and sometimes everything's right and the scale still stays put. When they deflate you get a whoosh. The goal is eating the maximum possible while still losing at a healthy rate. If you've seen nothing after 8 solid weeks, that's when to check accuracy and weigh every bite, no random guesses or wrong entries in your app's database. A decent app is honestly macrofactor: it compares daily weigh-ins with logged calories to work out your true tdee and adjusts your calories weekly. It taught me my tdee is about 250 calories lower than my height & size predict, likely from years of dieting, so my supposed 250-500 deficit was really 250-0.

While I was in loss mode I weighed in daily and my app used a 7 day average. In the days ahead of my period I always gain a few lbs, then it drops off. Totally natural for women (bloating around that time). As long as the average trends down you're fine. I like it because if you weigh in on a bad day you can feel your whole week was ruined when the average was lower. Do what suits you though!
