Slow losers unite! Hang in there!

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my experience as someone who's lost weight slowly on this journey, hoping it encourages others in a similar boat. We see so many amazing transformations, but it can be discouraging if you're not dropping weight as quickly. Don't give up!

I'm also super proud of my progress, and outside of my partner and my closest friend, no one knows I'm using Wegovy. I generally don't talk about weight publicly because I believe all bodies are worthy of respect and acceptance, regardless of size. So, I'm happy to share here!

I've lost around 55 pounds, but it took me about 22 months, averaging about half a pound per week. I went from a UK size 16 to a size 10-12 (US size 6-8).

Stats: 34 year old British woman, 5'11.5"
Start weight: 216 lbs, BMI 30 (Jan 2022)
Current weight: 163 lbs, BMI 22.7
My initial goal was 157 lbs, but I'm pretty content where I am.

I'm buying Wegovy privately here in the UK. I haven't been dieting per se. Now that the food cravings are less intense, I'm focused on intuitive eating. I really like the Japanese concept of Hara hachi bun me, which is eating until you're about 80% full. I try to stop when I'm no longer hungry rather than stuffed. I still indulge in treats occasionally and don't restrict too much, because I want this to be a sustainable lifestyle change.

I used to try every diet fad, and I could never maintain any weight loss.

I exercise 1-2 times a week doing weights, and I play golf on weekends, although my job is mostly desk-based.

I had very few side effects, especially now that I've been on it for so long. Maybe the first 2-3 months I dealt with some nausea and stomach issues, but I'm also dealing with recovering from gastritis and post-gallbladder removal issues (my gallbladder was removed in 2020, before I started this medication), so it's difficult to pinpoint the cause!

If you're also a slow loser or just starting out, I hope this helps you be patient! It's been almost 2 years to get to this point.

Thanks for sharing, Pure_Guy421! This is a great reminder that everyone's journey is different and progress is progress, no matter how slow. It's important to focus on sustainable lifestyle changes rather than quick fixes.

This is really encouraging, thanks for sharing your story! I needed to hear this today. You look fantastic!

What dose were you on, if you don’t mind me asking?

I really needed to read this! Thank you for the reminder. It's so easy to feel down when you see others who started at the same time losing so much more.

I really like your approach to food as well. I want to develop a healthy, sustainable way of eating without constantly worrying about it. I really appreciate your mindset.

Slow loser checking in!

I'm a woman in my 30s, 5'4", and my highest weight was around 300 lbs. I started on a GLP-1 medication in August 2022, so it's been about 2 years and 2 months. I currently weigh about 210 lbs. That's roughly 90 lbs in 114 weeks, which averages out to about 0.75 lbs per week. It's been a journey of whooshes and plateaus.

It's hard seeing others start and surpass me, reaching maintenance while I still have another 50 lbs or so to lose. But my weight trend is going down, and I can't complain. I'm not pushing super hard, and I haven't established a consistent exercise routine, so I know I can improve and I'm far from hitting a plateau.

I've experienced some hair loss, and since I'm in my 30s, my skin isn't as elastic. I think the gradual weight loss has helped reduce the severity of these side effects, and I'm grateful for that.

I started in a size 24 pants; now I'm in a size 16, almost a 14. My shirts were a 4X; now I can fit into some L and XL shirts. My bra size was a 46, and now I'm a 38.

It's working, and it's worth it!

First off: WOW! You look fantastic and I’m so happy for you 🥹

Secondly: this was a huge encouragement to me. I mentioned in another post this week about my experience as a slow-loser. I’ve been on semaglutide for nearly a year and have only lost around 30 lbs, and I started at 250 lbs with a significant amount to lose. Some people lose almost that much in a month, it seems. I’m very happy to be losing weight at all, but it’s discouraging at times seeing slow progress. This really boosted my spirits today!

Maintenance_Mode That's still amazing progress! Comparing yourself to others can be really tough, but 30 lbs is a huge accomplishment. Focus on how far you've come!

I hear you about the clothes thing. I'm having to buy a whole new wardrobe! It's a good problem to have, but my bank account is crying. Anyone else find shopping way more fun now?
