Sudden weight drop--normal?

I've been taking Mounjaro for around 5 months. I've been averaging about 1.5 - 2 pounds each week which is perfect for me. But this week, I've lost almost 5 pounds since last Friday. My diet hasn't changed and my activity levels are the same. I'm so confused! Has anyone else ever had this happen?

I'm coming up on a year now. There were times where I would lose like, 4 pounds in a week, and then barely anything for several weeks. Like .5 a pound. I figure it all evens out eventually. Those tiny losses are a bummer, lol.

If this is a one-time thing, it's likely fine. But if it keeps happening, see a doctor. Unexplained weight loss *can* be a red flag.

Same thing happened to me! I'm about 7 months in on 7.5mg. I suddenly lost a bunch of weight in one week. I decided to skip my shot the following week. No idea why it happened either. I'm trying to lose weight, but not that quickly!

I’m using MJ because I was diagnosed with fatty liver, and I need to lose the fat around my liver and other organs. I've had 8 shots of 2.5mg and 11 shots of 5mg (one more shot of 5mg coming up) and I've only lost 9 pounds total. Is that normal? I thought I'd lose more. I just had a checkup and my doctor says I'm on track, because the injections are targeting the fat on my organs first, and then I will see it on the scale. @Flex_Tale, do you have fatty liver disease or have you been tested? I've been checking my waist and hip measurements and they're smaller. It's frustrating to not see the scale move more, but my doctor told me to keep a journal of side effects, my diet and exercise, and then we can go over that to see if anything needs to be changed. I suggest you all do the same!

Normal and fine to shed muscle along with fat whether you're on this or not. Not carrying all that excess weight anymore means no constant muscle-building stimulus.

That makes total sense. The visceral fat is what they are really concerned about. The scale is secondary. Good job listening to your doctor!

I agree with @Sub-Q_Sammy, weight loss is not linear! Don't get discouraged by small losses. I've been taking a semaglutide for about 6 months now and I've only dropped around 20 pounds, but I'm still happy with the progress. It's slow and steady, and I know I couldn't have done it on my own.

I'm so jealous of people losing a ton of weight super fast! I've only lost like, 10 pounds in 3 months. It's so frustrating!
Dont be! 10 pounds is GREAT! Think of it as 30 pounds a year, you are doing awesome! Comparison is the thief of joy!

You're not just losing numbers on the scale, your whole metabolic picture shifted. That reading is low-normal so just make sure you're catching lows. I was taking three different pills and had to cut one because I kept getting really low readings.

Some folks shed and gain water weight like crazy. Could be your diet shifting what you're holding, but also maybe the scale's on an uneven spot. Mine has to live in the living room because my bathroom tiles are all wonky, adds like two kilos to every read.

What counts as normal is pretty subjective. Most people around you might be used to heavier bodies so thin looks weird to them. But healthier weight is healthier weight.
