Traveling with Tirz/Reta? Worried!

I'm going on a trip for a couple of weeks next month. I usually take my shot every five or six days, but I'll extend it to every week while I'm away. I'm trying to pack light and not bring a ton of stuff. Do I really need to keep my meds refrigerated the whole time, or is it okay at room temperature? What about when I'm moving between places? If I need to keep it cold, I can use a little insulated bag with some ice. Any advice?

There are several ways to handle this, . Here are some common solutions:

* Get a specialized travel case for injectable meds, like the ones used for insulin. They're designed to keep things cool and are easy to carry. Some places online sell them, and you might find some options discussed in the Supplies area of this forum.

* Use single-dose vials and not worry about the cold chain. It is a little wasteful, but it simplifies things.

* A thermos with ice packs can work if you're not flying.

* Some people think it's okay to do two shots over two weeks with very little heat exposure, as long as you use proper cleaning techniques before and after.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm traveling a lot soon, and I'll miss one of my shot days while I'm out of town. The second trip is a road trip, though.

I'm curious about the legal side of traveling with this stuff. I'm flying to Italy in a few months and then taking a river cruise in Europe. The whole thing is about 12 days. I'm planning on bringing some Tirz, Test, and a couple of prescription meds in my checked bag. Could that get me into trouble if it's clearly just for personal use? I used to travel a lot for work, but I never needed to bring anything like this.

I'd suggest leaving the testosterone at home, or hiding it in a pen. For the tirz, I'd also put it in a pen, like A1C_Warrior was saying. And I'd even get a doctor's note for the pens. Or just enjoy the last few days of the trip without it.

Are you feeling lucky? They could confiscate it or deny you entry. It's not a controlled substance, and it's a small amount, but it's well documented that you need a prescription. I bring a partially used Tirz vial with just enough for the trip. It's good for about three weeks at room temperature, but I put it in a mini-fridge when I get there. I keep it with my toiletries and the pins in a toothbrush holder. These days, agents are looking for lithium batteries, so don't give them a reason to open your bag, and don't use ice packs. The dogs are doing the sniffing. It's a gamble.

Thanks! I think I'll look into the insulin travel case. That sounds like a good solution. I'm mostly worried about keeping it cool enough.

I agree with ScaleHater. It's always a risk carrying prescription medications, even if they are for personal use. I would be especially cautious when traveling internationally. Best to check the regulations in each country you're visiting.

wondering if anyone's frozen a thawed pen cartridge. theoretically shouldn't matter vs freezing a vial, but the stopper isn't crimped like a vial so maybe not ideal. could reconstitute, freeze in a regular vial, thaw when needed, then transfer to the pen.

The 2 pre-drawn syringe approach for a Europe trip is exactly what a lot of people do. The question on 2.5 weeks is whether you dose weekly or can stretch to every 9-10 days at the same dose - the half-life gives you some flexibility. TSA-wise, keep everything in the original packaging with any documentation you have.

Nah, you're totally fine bringing it along. Compounded dual-action compound stays viable at room temperature for up to three weeks. Guessing a reconstituted version mixed with standard diluent would hold up similarly. Pharmacy-grade unmixed vials probably run closer to two years refrigerated, might be off on that number, but fairly confident it beats the compounded shelf life. Either way, you're totally fine bringing it along for a single day unrefrigerated during travel.

Sure it's fine. Worst case they confiscate it, so bring vials you can afford to lose (though I doubt it happens). Mine came in a prescription style container, or use one of your own containers.

A 6 day trip is coming in two weeks and I already fret about pinning a full dose and wasting the first 2 days. For Spain in July, four stops across two weeks, I may have a fix: buy one small Reta kit, 5mg, with 3ml of BAC and mix it just for the trip. Not the cheapest, but a small price for consistency and calm nerves. Everything else in my stash can wait.

People here and a testing lab have already refuted that a few times. You can freeze it!! There was a question floating around from someone with several unreconstituted tirz vials in the freezer, wanting a day of travel time outside before refreezing, and worried the thaw and refreeze would degrade it. Worth reading up on before you pack.

A few have been tested: Tirz survives being frozen a few times once reconstituted. My hotel fridge froze mine and it still worked. Others are a firm no. Convenience matters, and it also means less waste from an opened 30 mL bac vial. That consumer-convenience factor explains why pharma has earned trillions on extended-release pills, is earning trillions on weekly instead of every day GLP-1 injectables, and is now developing monthly ones.
