Traveling with Tirz/Reta? Worried!

I'm going on a trip for a couple of weeks next month. I usually take my shot every five or six days, but I'll extend it to every week while I'm away. I'm trying to pack light and not bring a ton of stuff. Do I really need to keep my meds refrigerated the whole time, or is it okay at room temperature? What about when I'm moving between places? If I need to keep it cold, I can use a little insulated bag with some ice. Any advice?

There are several ways to handle this, . Here are some common solutions:

* Get a specialized travel case for injectable meds, like the ones used for insulin. They're designed to keep things cool and are easy to carry. Some places online sell them, and you might find some options discussed in the Supplies area of this forum.

* Use single-dose vials and not worry about the cold chain. It is a little wasteful, but it simplifies things.

* A thermos with ice packs can work if you're not flying.

* Some people think it's okay to do two shots over two weeks with very little heat exposure, as long as you use proper cleaning techniques before and after.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm traveling a lot soon, and I'll miss one of my shot days while I'm out of town. The second trip is a road trip, though.

I'm curious about the legal side of traveling with this stuff. I'm flying to Italy in a few months and then taking a river cruise in Europe. The whole thing is about 12 days. I'm planning on bringing some Tirz, Test, and a couple of prescription meds in my checked bag. Could that get me into trouble if it's clearly just for personal use? I used to travel a lot for work, but I never needed to bring anything like this.

I'd suggest leaving the testosterone at home, or hiding it in a pen. For the tirz, I'd also put it in a pen, like A1C_Warrior was saying. And I'd even get a doctor's note for the pens. Or just enjoy the last few days of the trip without it.

Are you feeling lucky? They could confiscate it or deny you entry. It's not a controlled substance, and it's a small amount, but it's well documented that you need a prescription. I bring a partially used Tirz vial with just enough for the trip. It's good for about three weeks at room temperature, but I put it in a mini-fridge when I get there. I keep it with my toiletries and the pins in a toothbrush holder. These days, agents are looking for lithium batteries, so don't give them a reason to open your bag, and don't use ice packs. The dogs are doing the sniffing. It's a gamble.

Thanks! I think I'll look into the insulin travel case. That sounds like a good solution. I'm mostly worried about keeping it cool enough.

I agree with ScaleHater. It's always a risk carrying prescription medications, even if they are for personal use. I would be especially cautious when traveling internationally. Best to check the regulations in each country you're visiting.

I'm with The_King on this one. Test can be a real issue. Especially if you don't have a prescription from a doctor in the country you're visiting. It is better to be safe than sorry.

wondering if anyone's frozen a thawed pen cartridge. theoretically shouldn't matter vs freezing a vial, but the stopper isn't crimped like a vial so maybe not ideal. could reconstitute, freeze in a regular vial, thaw when needed, then transfer to the pen.
