Weed, cravings, and GLP-1s

I live in a state where recreational cannabis is legal. Usually, I take a 10 mg edible, or drink a cannabis-infused beverage, once or twice a week, on a Friday or Saturday night. For years, I've asked local dispensaries if they have anything that doesn't give you the munchies. No luck so far.

THC really messes with my appetite control. My food cravings go through the roof, and I never feel full. I was curious if semaglutide would help with that. Even on just .5 mg, it does! Instead of eating a huge bowl of ice cream, a spoonful is enough, and I feel satisfied. It's great, especially waking up without that 'I ate too much' feeling.

I've noticed that the munchies can overpower semaglutide. The cravings are less intense, but they're definitely still there. It's a different feeling than the hunger, or lack thereof, when I'm not using cannabis.

I remember reading an article explaining that marijuana activates different brain pathways than alcohol, shopping, or gambling, which mostly affect dopamine. I try to save it for late at night so I'm asleep before the munchies kick in, lol.

Look into terpenes. Humulene is supposed to suppress appetite. I always try to find weed that's high in it. Seems to help a lot. I barely get munchies these days.

I've also found that I want to smoke less cannabis overall. The cravings aren't as strong.

I agree, sema really cuts down on the munchies. Doesn't seem to affect my love of mary jane though. I've been on .5 for about nine months now. I'm drinking less booze, and I have no desire for soda anymore. As for weed, it seems like it must be beneficial for me in some way, because things that aren't, like soda or junk food, don't appeal to me at all anymore.

I don't really get the munchies anymore, but even with a tiny 2.5mg gummy, I get so incredibly tired that I've gone to bed by 7pm a few times. THC has always made me sleepy, but not like this!

I use THC every day. The munchies are definitely less intense now that I'm on a higher dose of sema. And for some reason, gummies don't affect me at all anymore, same with small doses of psilocybin.

I think it's hard to avoid the munchies completely. I've been smoking less and less, and I've basically stopped because of it, plus the anxiety, lol.

If you want to keep using, have some low-calorie snacks on hand. Berries, apple slices with nonfat Greek yogurt always hit the spot, even if they don't sound appealing at first. And Popcorners Kettle chips are only 130 calories for a good-sized bag! Make a list of these snacks so you remember when you're high.

I use an edible to help me sleep because I struggle with insomnia. I'd probably be ten pounds lighter if I didn't need it. It fights against the GLP and makes me snack. Seriously!

I'm on a GLP-1. When I smoke, the munchies always win. Plus, the high is different. It takes longer to kick in and lasts forever (I take a gummy). I had to lower my THC dose to 2.5mg, or I get way too high. Which I know sounds ridiculous, but whatever.

I'm on both a GLP-1 and medical cannabis. I still get mild munchies, but the lack of physical hunger makes them easy to ignore. If I do get them, a tiny amount of food is enough. (Two or three crackers, a small piece of chocolate, etc.)

Not having the constant food noise is amazing. It took a while for the psychological cravings to go away, but the weed actually helped with that.

EDIT: THC, especially edibles, definitely overrides any appetite suppression from sema. You'll get the munchies, but I find that I get full faster. So, it's still an improvement.

I'm so impressed by this medication. I've spent most of my life struggling with my weight, and it's such a relief to not be constantly thinking about food. It's liberating! I'm looking forward to continuing this journey and becoming the best version of myself. Lost 20 pounds in about 2 months!

I hear you about the cravings! I took my second semaglutide shot yesterday, and the nausea is awful. Hopefully, it will pass soon... but the cravings are intense! KBBQ, pizza, burgers... Before starting this, I was on other meds and didn't crave anything like this. I've been losing weight for two years and plateaued, so my doctor recommended trying this, and now I'm craving everything.

I can relate to what ThinQuest928 is saying. I also had increased cravings after starting. Hang in there! It takes a few weeks for things to even out. I found that once my blood sugar started to stabilize, the sugar cravings got even stronger. It's all part of the process with these meds.

low doses gave me excellent appetite suppression at first. stayed that way until about 2mg per week. food noise is solid the whole time but now at 5mg the suppression is great again. exhaustion came back though and eating more just makes it worse. gonna hold here and see how it plays out.

Reward pathway blunting on GLP-1 seems to affect the subjective ceiling for most substances, not just food. The substance hits the receptor but the peak response is lower. Consistent finding across the community.
