Wrong Mounjaro dose - what do I do?

I went to pick up my prescription at the local pharmacy and got 3 months of the 10mg pens, but I'm supposed to be on 12.5mg now. I didn't realize the mistake until I got home and opened the bag. Now I'm stuck with all these extra pens. Any ideas on how to use them?

I'm a bit confused about the situation. Did you try to return them? What dosage is listed on the box label and on the official prescription from your doctor?

Okay, to clarify, I used to take 10mg, but my doctor upped it. The pharmacy's automated refill system reminded me I had one refill left of the 10mg. I absentmindedly clicked to refill, forgetting my new script was for 12.5mg. I didn't double-check when I picked it up, and the pharmacy won't take it back. So yeah, my mistake mostly. The system prompted me to refill the lower dose but the 12.5 was never sent over electronically originally.

I saw some videos where folks take the pens apart and put the medicine into a sterile vial. Then you can use a regular syringe to measure out your 12.5mg dose. Might work for you.

Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Maybe they can write a script to a compounding pharmacy for the additional dosage you need to get to 12.5mg. I got my 90 day supply from a local compounding pharmacy, with the script provided through a telehealth service. You'd have to draw the meds from a vial with a syringe.

Taking apart the pen isn't too difficult if you follow the videos. I took one apart after it was empty and the spring is really strong!

My instructions say not to disassemble it, and I think I saw posts where people lost the medicine doing that.

Doing the math, if you take 10mg every six days, you'll be pretty darn close to the same total dosage you'd get injecting 12.5mg every week. It's only a few days short at the end of the month, so you'll be fine to refill when you're supposed to.

I'd just take 10mg for another month rather than make things complicated. Just refill the 12.5 next time. It isn't a huge deal.

Since Leslie70 is on this forum, I assume she knows about the compounded versions. So getting a prescription from Walgreens probably means it's cheaper for her than getting it elsewhere. Some people who get compounded stuff still keep their insurance prescriptions active as backup.
