Restarting GLP-1 after surgery?

Hong Kong Yanpep International
10mg to 7.5mg to 5mg over 22 months while maintaining the diabetes management piece is the step-down maintenance story that shows the medication can work at lower doses than the peak loss dose. The insulin adjustment at the lower dose is worth tracking - the A1C improvement to 5.1 is already at goal.

Recently underwent major abdominal surgery. Shifted the dosing schedule to leave a six day gap before the procedure. Resumed with the next dose three days post-surgery. Surgeon had no concerns with that timeline.

Might be worth pausing for a couple weeks to give your gut a break, then restarting back at 0.25mg. Definitely bring this up with whoever's prescribing too, get their take before moving forward.

Yes, definitely talk to your doctor about it. Been on a GLP1 since 2023 myself and I'm about to go three weeks without it for an upcoming surgery. Planning to restart at the lowest dose once I'm cleared.

Started at a small amount eight months back for type 2 diabetes. Glucose control's improved a lot and a substantial amount of weight has come off too. Was thinking about asking the doctor about moving up, but from reading around here, staying at a lower amount until it stops working seems like the better approach. Side effects have stayed limited to occasional nausea, curious what bumping up might actually change.

Good luck w/ the surgery. Whatever the research says, you'll have to follow the wishes of your surgeon or anaesthetist, or they may refuse to proceed. A few weeks of extra hunger and a few extra lbs should be easy to fix once you restart the GLP meds. Searching the medical literature, there are hundreds of studies on surgical outcomes with and without GLP drugs. Nothing definitive, and some show worse outcomes, but overall GLP drugs improve post-surgery results, particularly orthopedic ones.
