Reta and extended fasting?

Okay, here's the deal. My weight's coming off bit by bit, so it's not like I NEED to fast. But, I've always done 6-day fasts every few months and felt amazing afterwards.

I'm planning to be on reta for a while, years even. My body's gonna fight to get back the weight, and I need something long-term. I just hate the idea of ditching my fasting routine. But dropping my blood sugar too low scares me. Thoughts?

I wouldn't risk it. You might get really low blood sugar. Why worry about fasting until you hit your target weight? Maybe you'll be fine on a smaller dose then.

I kinda agree. Since starting Reta, I'm eating far healthier. Better food, vitamins, and collagen every day. And it's helped a ton! Body aches are almost gone.

I haven't fasted on reta, but I was on Mounjaro between Oct '24 and recently. Fasting wasn't an issue for me. I was careful with supplements though - potassium, B-12, magnesium, etc. I also didn't do super strict fasts - I'd have a sugar-free electrolyte mix every day. Maybe 1/3 to 1/2 a packet. It kept my energy up and stopped the headaches.

I'm on reta now and plan to fast later. I've only ever done 36:12 though, nothing longer.

From a medical perspective, prolonged fasting while on GLP-1 receptor agonists like Retatrutide requires careful consideration. The risk of hypoglycemia is indeed elevated due to the synergistic effect of reduced caloric intake and the medication's mechanism of action. It's crucial to monitor blood glucose levels frequently and adjust medication dosages as necessary under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Electrolyte imbalances are another potential concern during fasting, necessitating supplementation with potassium, sodium, and magnesium. Prioritizing patient safety through informed decision-making and close supervision is paramount.

I've been craving sweets like crazy since starting this. Has anyone found any decent low-calorie options that actually taste good? I'm trying to avoid a repeat of last month, which was a total bust because of a chocolate binge.

I hear you on the sweets thing, Bear_Ready. I've been doing frozen fruit pops. Pineapple/cherry or mango. Like 60 calories each. Or the Popsicle brand, those are only like 15 calories.

I've found that protein ice cream really helps with cravings. It's a bit pricey, but worth it. Alternatively, I recently bought a Ninja Creami and have been making my own protein ice cream using my regular protein shakes and sugar-free yogurt. Works great!

If you're looking for something quick and easy, I'd recommend checking out the protein smoothies at Smoothie King. I get one with 45g of protein and only 1g of sugar for 220 calories. It's been a lifesaver!

115 is still pre-diabetic, not diabetic range. Some people on reta see fasting glucose hold before it drops. Worth mentioning at your next check-in.

Breakfast plus dinner with protein shakes filling gaps is a reasonable approach if you're hitting your targets. The fasting compatibility question depends more on total intake than number of meals - if you're reaching your protein goals it mostly doesn't matter whether that's in 2 meals or 4. What does your daily protein target look like?
