Weight Comes Back After Stopping GLP-1s?

Hong Kong Yanpep International
If you take away the thing that makes you not want to eat, you're gonna want to eat again. Why are people so hungry in the first place? It's gotta be more than just 'bad habits'.

I was on it for a year and dropped 65 lbs. It's been like 6 months since I stopped, and I've only put back on maybe 5 lbs. I'm not as strict as I was, but my appetite is still way lower than before. Fingers crossed it stays this way!

I'm half a year in, and I've gained back 8lbs. Started lifting weights like mad, my clothes fit better despite the scale. So glad I used this as a tool to get healthier.

I don't ever want to quit this stuff. Why would I? The food noise is a constant battle for me. It's like meds for a mental disorder, you just stay on them.

That article is misleading. It says everyone gains it back. That's just false. Some don't. We need to figure out how to help people *not* regain.

It's just like if you stop taking meds for any chronic issue, the symptoms come back. When will people get that obesity is a disease for many? Some folks can't tell when they're full, constantly fight food cravings, and can't 'just eat less and move more'. It makes sense to stay on GLP-1s long-term to manage it.

I'm not shocked, isn't the success rate for typical weight loss super low? I've regained 40+ lbs so many times. I don't plan on stopping these meds, every time I gained, I couldn't control it. There is something up with my body.

I started at a BMI of 35, always hungry with constant food noise. I lost almost 70 lbs but had to stop when my insurance stopped paying. I was just above a 'normal' BMI. I've actually lost another 12 lbs since then, losing at 4 lb/month.

I eat differently now, because I knew the only way to not regain was to simplify my diet. I eat treats maybe once a month, which I used to enjoy weekly. I use very little fat when cooking and eat whole grains with veggies and lean protein. I eat until I feel full, which is probably more than most people need, but the food is healthy. I'm always monitoring what I eat to prevent myself from overdoing it. There is room for twice as much as I eat every day, I'm hungry until mealtime.

I don't know if this will work long term, but I hope so. Both parents are obese, and my dad has a binge eating disorder, I feel destined to struggle.

I've been at maintenance for 2 months. Still doing the shot weekly, but easing up on the dose a smidge. I'm also adding back in some calories on the weekends. Balance is key, and honestly, I don't crave garbage. So far so good!
